Little Miss Sunshine

I enjoyed watching Little Miss Sunshine. I thought it was a really charming and entertaining movie. The characters were really likeable, even though they were a bit crazy and exaggerated. I felt really sorry for Dwayne when he found out that he was colourblind.
The whole movie was full of unexpected things like that; I would describe the movie as really ironic. For example Richard; the father that had come up with a nine-step program to help people be winners in life, he was somewhat a loser himself, and Olive; the daughter, she was in a pageant even though she wasn't the typical "beauty-queen", and Dwayne; the only thing he wanted was to be a pilot and he finds out he can't be one beacuse of a small thing like colourblindness.
I found Richard to be slightly obnoxious. I really didn't like when he implied that Olive couldn't have ice-cream when they were at a diner; beacuse ice-cream makes people fat, and pageant girls aren't fat. You could tell it made Olive really sad, but then the rest of the family make her feel better by eating the ice-cream too.
That was sort of the essence of the film; that even though they all had their problems and issues they all came together and helped each other, and even though they were a pretty dysfunctional family they were still loving and supportive of each other and they didn't care what anyone else thought of them.
I didn't really like the scene at the end when Olive performs her dance at the pageant, that part was a little too much for me, I think it would have been a better ending if she did something more appropriate and won the pageant instead! :)
