Fun/interesting experience

Green Day 2010-06-05; The best day of my life!

On the 5th of June this year I saw one of my favourite bands ever; Green Day. It was the first time I saw them live. I've been listening to Green Day since about 2005 so their music has definitely come to mean a lot to me in the past five years.

I went with my friend Nicole who lives in Helsingborg. I don't get to see her very often so I was super excited to share that awesome experience with her :)

On the day of the concert Nicole and I got up pretty early, we got the bus to Gothenburg around 8 in the morning and we arrived in Gothenburg about 10-11 am. First we went with my mum to the hotel we were staying at, it was about a 100 m from Ullevi so we didn't have to walk far. The hotel room itself had the most amazing view with glass windows from floor to ceiling.

We got to the venue at 10:45 and we proceeded to wait there until at least after 6 pm. It was a really long and exhausting wait, but spirits were definitely high amongst all of us fans :) Green Day songs were being played and it was a really awesome atmosphere. It didn't really dawn on me that I was actually gonna see GD until I/we heard them doing their soundcheck; It was a little bit of an emotional moment for me :)
We were really lucky with the weather; it was really sunny and warm all day.
The only bad part about that was that I got reaaaally sunburnt, I didn't think of wearing sunscreen. I had unfortunately decided to wear fishhnet stockings and shorts that day so my legs kind of ended up resembling a christmas ham for a few weeks after that! I was not pleased.

We got let into the venue 6-7 pm. It was then that the long wait definitely became worthwhile, we ended up standing approximately 5-10 meters from the stage, it was great!
We had to wait for probably another hour or so while the venue filled up. All in all there were about 32 000 people, and me and Nicole were among the first 1500 people to be let in.

The first band to play was a band from Stockholm called 'Johnossi' I hadn't heard of them before, but after the concert they've had songs played on the radio. They were actually pretty good :)

After Johnossi; the main opening act came on, it was Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. That was a pretty big deal for me to see her/them. It was awesome, and I'm definitely a fan of her music now. Joan Jett is like the essence of rock n' roll and she's paved the way for a lot of female musicians. And anyone who can rock out at 50 years of age in black leather deserves major respect! :)

So then around 9 pm Green Day finally came on. It felt so surreal to actually see them in the flesh, it was epic.
It was super energetic and by the end of the second song i was really sweaty. But being amidst all of these people, and being pushed left, right and center is part of the experience. I can honestly say that that day was the happiest I've ever been; I was one hundred percent in the moment and completely starstruck by my 3 heroes in Green Day. It was completely magical. I wish I could go back to that day and just stay there forever :)
